Is a version number wrong?

Updated at: Jul 2, 2024

We regularly collect the latest web browser version numbers from a variety of sources and show them to you. This information is also available through the Browser Versions API as well. But occasionally the information sources where we get browser version data from change their format, or aren't updated themselves - and so we incorrectly show an older version number.

The system we've built to handle this process of collecting, verifying, and sharing version numbers will let us know when there's been some problem finding new version data, and normally we'll just dive in and fix the problem. Most of the time this is caused when a data source changes their format. But it's a little harder to know when one of our data sources has failed to update their information. We can't collect version data if it's not available. In the event that this happens, we'd love to know about it so that we can investigate.

Has the latest version just been released?

The only exception to this is if the latest version number has just been released - because, there can be a short delay between the data sources being updated with the latest version number and our systems automatically checking, loading, and showing the new version data.

We check our sources for new browser versions every three hours. Sometimes browser manufacturers can take a few hours to update their information, so there's a short delay in us getting the new information.

If the browser version is brand new, please wait a few hours before contacting us

If the latest version has just been released, then don't worry - we should pick it up automatically and show it within a few hours.

If it's been more than 24 hours and the latest version number isn't showing on our site, then please contact us and we'll investigate.
